نشرت بيتر بان أو الصبي الذي لا يكبر أبدا أول مره عام 1904، وقد كتبها باري تخليدا لذكرى أخيه الذي مات في حادث تزلج قبل بلوغه الرابعة عشر، وظلت أمه تراه صبيا للأبد. صار بيتر منذئذ أيقونة لليفاع والبراءة، وهذا ما دفع جيمس باري إلى تكليف النحات جورج فرامتن بصنع تمثال لبيتر نصب ليلاً في كنغزتن غادرن، ليكون مفاجأة لأطفال لندن في إجازة الأول من مايو، وتخليداً للصبي الذي لا يعرف الهرم بطريقة أخرى.
