The resistance of a fabric is measured by the height of a water column in mm that can be supported by the fabric (test based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with a waterproof rating of 2,000 mm can therefore withstand the pressure exerted by a 2,000 mm water column. To make sure you stay warm and dry, we recommend using the 3-technical-layer rule:- Layer 1 or thermal base layer to stay dry.- Layer 2 or an insulating layer, to keep the heat in.- Layer 3 or a protective layer to protect against the elements.

What is the water-repellent feature?

A water-repellent fabric lets water run off its surface, without absorbing it: the fabric does not soak up water and stays light and breathable. You can see drops of water beading and running off the surface of the fabric.A fabric is made water-repellent by applying a treatment to its outer surface. This treatment needs to be renewed during the lifetime of the garment (every 3 washes).

How to restore the water-repellent properties?

To reactivate the water-repellent property, wash the garment inside out on a synthetic cycle at 30°C and rinse thoroughly. You can use your usual washing powder but no fabric softener. Then leave your jacket to air-dry completely on a drying rack. Finally, turn your garment the right way round and put it in the tumble dryer on low heat for 10 minutes. The heat will reactivate the water-repellent property of the fabric.
