سفينتان حربيتان \"بابوران\" هما \"بورصة\" و \"إزمير\" انطلقتا من اسطنبول فجالتا البحر الأبيض المتوسط ومخرتا عباب الأطلسي، وصولا إلى ريو دي جانيرو في البرازيل سنة 1866 فاحتفى بهما من البرازيليين وزارهما في المرسى إمبراطور البلاد دون بيدرو الثاني (1825-1891) بعد إقامة قصيرة، ستغادر السفينتان ويبقى الإمام البغدادي في الريو لينهض بمهمة تعليم جالية من المسلمين الأفارقة قراءة القرآن وأصول الدين.
